We celebrate them.

Nope Val nope

Stoick is just….so great.  I hope we get to see more of that side of him.  We keep getting all of these little hints, and it is obvious he misses and loves Val and thought the world of her.  And it kind of seems like he’s shouldering this one by himself, though he probably talks to Gobber about it.

Stoick is wise, and caring, and protective, and he loves his son.

It makes me really upset when I see members of the fandom condemn him.  Look a little closer.  Stoick and Hiccup are the same person on the inside.  They are more alike than they realize.

HTTYD was meant to mend broken relationships, as a father son story.  It wasn’t meant to further the gap.  It wasn’t meant for people to look at that and say “My parents dont get me! They never will!”

It was meant to be so that people will realize, our parents make mistakes.  And we can be “every bit the bull headed stubborn viking” they ever were.  Its about lack of communication, and misunderstanding, not abuse and intolerance.  Stoick is a great man.  I just hope more people can get to appreciate that.

((THIS^^^^^^^^^^))

This analysis of Stoick hits the nail on the head. I love Stoick, and he’s such an understated character. Though functioning as the “antagonist” in the HTTYD tale, he *is* a great man and a loving father, though he doesn’t always know how to show it. But he is learning, as this example in GotNF reveals. He catches Hiccup in a sad state and realizes without Hiccup saying so that Hiccup desperately misses Toothless. And he offers advice, in a brief man-ish sort of way (once he’s done with it, he gets away as quickly as possible!). And practically everything he did is for his tribe and to protect his son whom he loves.

Oh, honey. You are about two decades (give or take) too late with this information.
